Among the honourees was legendary actor and Hollywood icon Denzel Washington. The two-time Academy Award winner, celebrated for his powerful performances in films like “Glory” and “Training Day,” was recognised for his stellar acting career and also for his impactful work as a philanthropist and minister. The Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honour, is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to American culture, society, and global leadership.

Michael J. Fox, beloved for his roles in “Back to the Future,” “Family Ties,” and “Spin City,” was also honoured for his decades-long advocacy for Parkinson’s disease research.

Other recipients included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U2 frontman and humanitarian Bono, renowned fashion designer Ralph Lauren, “Science Guy” Bill Nye, basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, humanitarian chef José Andrés, conservationist Jane Goodall, and international football star Lionel Messi, among others.

“Today, I had the honour of bestowing the Medal of Freedom–our nation’s highest civilian honour–on a group of extraordinary people who have given thier saved effort to shape the culture and cause of America,” President Biden remarked during the ceremony. says President Joe Biden.

With the New Year just around the corner, you might be thinking of something to snack on as you relax watching movies or celebrate with family and friends. YeyiloTV’s Nigerian peppered chicken fits the bill perfectly. It’s easy to make, full of flavour, and works just as well for snacking as it does for adding something tasty to your New Year spread.

She starts by mixing dry seasonings—cumin powder, chili powder, curry powder, dried pepper, black pepper, salt, and chicken bouillon. This is rubbed onto washed chicken, along with star anise, ginger and garlic paste, bay leaves, and onions. The chicken is left to cook in its own juices for a few minutes before adding water, then transferred to an air fryer for that perfect crispiness.

For the sauce, she heats oil and adds ginger and garlic paste, then slices onions and roughly blends a mix of pepper and tomatoes. After frying it all together, she adds the dry seasonings, followed by the chicken. She finishes with sliced sweet bell peppers and onions as garnish.

This peppered chicken is ready to be enjoyed with your drink of choice.

Asun Jollof Rice is more than just a meal; it’s a flavour-packed experience that blends the smoky essence of grilled goat meat with the richness of jollof rice. Velvety Foodies gives this combo her own twist, revealing a secret method that takes the dish to a whole new level.

She begins by seasoning goat meat with paprika, bouillon cubes, and salt, making sure every piece is well-coated. Instead of the usual boiling, she grills the meat straight after marinating it. This method, she explains, locks in the flavour and brings out the authentic taste of asun. Once grilled to perfection, the meat is cut into bite-sized pieces, ready for the next step.

To create the asun, the grilled goat meat is cooked in a pot with roughly blended pepper, seasoning, and a little oil. A generous amount of onions is added, and everything simmers for a few minutes, allowing the flavours to meld.

For the jollof rice, Velvety Foodies heats up some oil, adds onions, tomato paste, pepper blend, seasoning, and washed rice, letting it cook until tender. To finish, she stirs in sliced fresh tomatoes, onions, butter, and the prepared asun. After a final five-minute simmer, the Asun Jollof Rice is ready to serve.

It’s one day to Christmas. And if you’re like us, you’re probably wondering what to make for Christmas breakfast – you know, before the legendary jollof rice, haha. Christmas mornings deserve a meal that feels just as festive as the day itself and Uzoms Kitchen has shared her coconut Irish potato wedges, a simple yet flavourful recipe that’s perfect for breakfast and easy to recreate.

She begins by washing and cutting Irish potatoes into bite-sized pieces. The potatoes are cooked in a pot with coconut milk, black pepper, garlic, seasoning, and basil leaves. Once they’re almost fully cooked, the liquid is drained, and a baking rack is prepped with oil to keep the potatoes from sticking. The potatoes are spread out, sprinkled with chilli flakes, Cajun spice, and paprika, mixed thoroughly, and roasted in the oven for 15 minutes.

While the wedges roast, she prepares her eggs by adding cooking cream and seasoning before frying them in butter for a rich finish. Once done, the dish is plated and ready to serve.

Reality TV star Atteh Daniel, also known as Sir Dee, and his wife, Chloe, were on the second episode of  “My Favourite Christmas Memory with Tope” with Tope Olowoniyan to share their favourite Christmas memories, how they celebrate the season together, and what makes it so special for them.

Chloe shared that one of her favourite Christmas memories is spending time with her brothers. Having them around for the holidays always made the season feel extra special for her.

For Sir Dee, one of his most memorable Christmases involved a heartfelt gesture – he went to deliver food to a neighbour, which is a common Nigerian tradition during Christmas. To his surprise, the neighbour gave him 50,000 Naira in return, a kind and unexpected gift that made the moment even more special, and he says he won’t ever forget it.

When it comes to their ideal Christmas meals, Sir Dee says he’s all about pounded yam with egusi soup, chicken, fried rice, and jollof rice, while Chloe’s includes lamb, roasted potatoes, and vegetables.

As a newly married couple, Chloe and Sir Dee are looking forward to celebrating their first Christmas together. They’re considering starting a fun tradition – a Christmas-themed photo shoot with matching pyjamas for them and their puppy.

Chloe also shared When Tope asked Chloe about the Nigerian tradition where most parents buy new clothes for their kids at Christmas, she admitted she didn’t experience it. However, she did get Christmas gifts, which made the holiday season feel just as special.

Sir Dee also shared his mantra for the year 2025:

Build wealth, I just want to be able to build generational wealth in the sense that not necessarily that I make billions right now now but I create structures that has the potentials to make said billions.

Among them is a collection of Christopher Radko ornaments handed down from her mum, Kris Jenner. “Growing up with [those ornaments] every year, they became so special to me,” she says. “And I can’t wait to share that with my kids one day, but I love sharing this with my friends. I love entertaining, I love hosting, and so these decorations get used really well.”

Her cosy, eclectic home—already full of earthy textures and vintage vibes—is the perfect backdrop for the classic holiday décor. It’s proof that Christmas doesn’t always have to be about over-the-top glitz to feel magical.
